News – July/August

Hello everyone,

it’s been a while since the last newsletter but we’re going to try and re-instate regular updates so you can keep tabs with what’s been going on at the club.

Maintenance
The team have been hard at work around various waters. We really appreciate their efforts and the work they do to maintain our waters. If anyone would like to pitch in and help on a regular or irregular basis, we could always do with extra hands and it’s a geat way to give back to the club we all enjoy.

Decoy – the major works along the bank are progressing well and should be finished soon. The deep water sign is done and the re-painted noticeboard will include a QR code which allows you to open the website directly from your phone; in case you don’t have it bookmarked. We’re also looking into installing a portaloo at Decoy and will keep you informed of any progress there.

Frylands Ponds – while previous attempts to make Frylands more fishable have had moderate success, it’s now clear that we need to dredge the whole of both lakes, rather than just the margins. We’re liaising with the landowner and the EA about the best and most cost-effective way to proceed.

Electricity Pond – new posts and wire fencing have been installed around the side of the pond.

Masons lake – we’ll be undertaking repairs to the bridge the week beginning August 5th.

Wildings causeway – we’re still liaising with the landowner about the repairs that are neceessary to make the causeway safe again but progress has stalled. You can still access both lakes but you’ll have to walk round the little lake to get to the far bank of the large lake. Wildings has also been strimmed recently.

Clubmate additions
We’ve added a new ’tile’ to your Clubmate dashboard which takes you stright to the main club website when you tap it. In addition, we’ve also added access descriptions to the Maps of all our waters, again in the Clubmate app.

Smile, you’re on TV
We’ve had some issues recently with people defecating at Wildings and Oldmans lakes and not clearing up after themselves. This is not acceptable. If you get caught short, please bury your waste and toilet paper so other people don’t have to stumble across it. The landowners at both venues are – understandably – annoyed and this is the kind of behaviour that could lose us access to their waters.

In addition, we’ve had reports of littering and fly tipping – especially at Decoy where a TV was dumped – and as a result we’re going to start installing CCTV at various club venues in an attempt to stamp this out. You should see the signs going up in the next month or so.

100 Club draw results
Well done to Neil Fisher (July) and Jean Fisher (August) for winning the draw in the last two months.
