As a club, Hassocks Angling is keen to encourage youngsters to take up fishing – and to coax adults who’ve enjoyed the sport in the past into taking it up again. We’re supporting these efforts in two ways. First, in conjunction with the Angling Trust which runs free Get Fishing Events throughout the year (see the Get Fishing Events website for details). Second, by offering you the chance to fish with one of our most experienced – and successful – anglers, Nigel Jackson.

Surveys show that more than 10% of 12 year olds have already been fishing and as many again would like to go – if they had a little help. Hassocks Angling has a number of local ponds and lakes which are well suited to youngsters starting out on their angling journey, and remember that under 12s can fish for free – see our Membership page for details. Buying an annual rod licence is easy and fishing is free for children under 12. A trout and coarse fishing licence remains at £5 for 12 to 16 year olds.

Fishing has many benefits. For example:

• Building confidence
• Aiding concentration
• Fresh air and exercise
• Teaching love and respect for nature
• Fun for the whole family
