Happy Autumn everyone!

Here’s a round up of what’s been going on around Hassocks Angling’s different waters in the last month or so.

Annual General Meeting
The club AGM is scheduled for Friday 21st of November at:
The King’s Centre
33-35 Victoria Road
Burgess Hill
RH15 9LR

Everyone is welcome from 7.00pm and the meeting will start at 7.30pm. Although no new proposals are currently scheduled for the AGM, we’d love to see you there. It’s a chance to meet the folks who help to run the club and have your say about its general direction or raise any specific issues you have.

Maintenance
The team continue their invaluable work around our waters, and as always we really appreciate their efforts and the sterling work they do in making all our venues fiashable. If anyone would like to pitch in and help on a regular or irregular basis, we could always do with extra hands and it’s a geat way to give back to the club we all enjoy. We’d especially like to hear from younger members who are willing to pitch in. Email enquiries@hassocksangling.co.uk letting us know how you could help and if there are particular waters you’d prefer to work on and we’ll put you in touch ith the right person.

Badgers Wood – the hedges have been cut back and the grass is also done. The Norfolk reeds are contuning to encroach into three swims and we’re investigating new approaches to tame them.

George Cragg – two pegs need new boards this winter and we’re sourcing timber for these now.

Decoy – the sluice has been completed and the fallen tree cleared from the track. Next step is to carry out repairs to some of the decaying wood. The deep water sign is done, noticeboard re-painted and a ‘No Fly Tipping – CCTV in use’ sign added to the front gate. We’ll also be planting some more lilies.

Wildings – grass has been cut and various scrub and trees removed/tidied up. The causeway repair is holding but may be temporary; water level is rising, but still well down. The track is still open but the landowner will close this when the weather deteriorates.

Masons – repairs to the bridge will be undertaken as soon as the wood for this is ready.

Oldmans – grass cut and swims tidied. Track currently open but watch for closed signs when weather gets worse and be prepared to park in the courtyard area.

Access to waters in Autumn and Winter
Please be aware that as the weather worsens, some landowners will start to close tracks and post signs asking members to park away from the waterside. Please respect this – your 4-wheel drive may be able to handle a muddy track, but it causes damage that in the end will keep it closed for longer. We operate these waters in partnership with the landowner and it’s important that we co-operate. Thanks for your understanding.

Portaloos at Decoy and Badgers Wood
Our luxury portaloos will remain in place until October 31st, after which they’ll be taken away to re-appear on April 1st. From next year each will be fitted with a toilet brush and holder.

Charity Match
The Masons charity match at Badgers Wood on the 25th of September was a great success and we’d like to thank everyone involved.

100 Club draw results
Well done to Neil Fisher for winning last month’s draw.
