November 2022 News

It is still very mild and as far as I can see from the website the fish seem to be unaware that Winter is approaching. Badgers Wood, in particular is still fishing well with both bream and tench being caught. I have it on good authority that a couple of decent perch have been caught from Decoy which is a relief. There always used to be a decent shoal of 2lb plus perch in Decoy but they have been a bit scarce until recently so that is good news.

Maintenance

Badgers Wood and George Cragg

Because of the weather we had to do the mega strim over two weekends but once again we had a good turnout with 12 members on the Saturday. We had the usual crew and it was good to see a couple of new faces including a junior member. It is always very hard work and it was even more so this year as the sun and rain meant the grass was extra thick, but with 5 strimmers, a couple of  lawn mowers and the guys who did all they raking we managed to finish it off. Thanks to all who came along and Malcolm York who served up his usual culinary masterpiece (Sausages in rolls!).

Decoy

The lilies along the field side of Decoy have started to encroach in the swims so we have removed a number of them. Unfortunately they are pretty robust and seem to like the conditions so it is a job which we may have to do on a regular basis. We will not be removing  them completely as they are a valuable fish haven. After the recent storms there were a number of badly leaning trees so we have removed these before gravity lends a hand.

AGM

We just about managed a forum at the AGM with 30 members shown on the attendance sheet.  Full details of the meeting are available to download at the end of this month’s news. Just click the button. Thanks to all of you who attended. Once again the food was spot on so thanks to Sharon for providing this for us.

Breaking News

We were approached by the Environment Agency at very short notice as they had a number of surplus crucian carp which were available. As they do not charge us for the fish we have agreed that any they provide will only go into carp free waters to ensure they remain true crucians. I am pleased to announce that 300 small crucians went into Badgers Wood with a further 200 into George Cragg pond. Once again we would like to thank the Environment Agency for their support and generosity.

100 Club

The October draw was made at the AGM and for those who couldn’t make it the winner was Malcolm York. This month’s draw was won by Ross Armstrong and as we will not be having any more meetings before Christmas we have also carried out the December draw. The lucky winner is Stuart Williamson.  To ensure you have the monies before Christmas could I ask you both to contact Greg Brown with your banking details.

And finally……. The portaloo which was in the car park at Badgers Wood has been removed for the winter but fret not as we will have it reinstated next season.
