8/3/24…Padlock code change date…glasses found

Welcome to the new-look Notices section. Instead of individual notices that are replaced when we add the next item, we’ll be simply adding them to the noticeboard so they stay visible for longer. Off we go, then.

• We’ve set up a classified buy/sell/donate page on Facebook for club members. Here’s the link to Hassocks Angling Classifieds. You’ll need a Facebook account in order to join in.
• We’ve found a pair of glasses in the Badgers Wood car park. If they’re yours give Roy Fisher a ring on 01444 235978
• Please note that the padlock codes to our waters will be changed on Monday, April 1st. If you’re an existing member it’s worth taking your old membership card with you in case we haven’t gotten round to changing the code on the water you’re visiting that day. If you’re a new member it might be wise to wait a day and go on April 2nd, just to be on the safe side!
• Please be aware that the track at Masons lake that leads to the car park is very rutted and slippery due to the recent rain, so please take care.
• Please note that we no longer have access to the stretch of the Adur upstream of Wineham bridge. The landowner is selling the land.
• The upstream bridge at Cemetery Wood has been damaged by the recent floods and is unsafe to use. We’re hoping to sort it out in the next few days.
• The condition of the Wildings causeway has worsened and the east side of the lake is no longer accessible across the dam. The known problem of erosion on the exit pipe has been made much worse with the causeway bank undermined and recent soil dropping nearly 8 feet into the lower lake. We’re trying to find a way forward in co-operation with the landowner to resolve the issue.
• Access to all waters is tricky at the moment due to the heavy rain, so please take care when driving or walking to the water – especially on the rivers.
• As of today, Monday, January 8th, the field down to Oldmans is CLOSED for the week. We think it will be closed for the foreseeable future. Please check back here for updates.
• “Magic Twig’ rig – this new carp rig is currently not permitted for use on any Hassocks water until we’ve had a chance to evaluate its safety properly. Please don’t use it – there are plenty of other ways to catch a carp!
• Wildings Access – we’re afraid the track down to the lake is closed – probably for the rest of the season. The extensive rutting has been repaired on the surface but we’re laying down a mesh membrane to try and prevent this from happening again and this needs time to ‘bed in’. Please park at the top and walk down until further notice. We appreciate your co-operation.
