Wow, that was a bit of a scorcher and I hope you all managed to survive the 30 degree plus temperatures. Things are starting to cool down and with the recent heavy rain the lakes and ponds are filling up nicely. Unlike some other clubs we have been very lucky and have had no reports of fish kills as a result of the high temperatures and low oxygen levels.
Maintenance
Despite the hot weather we have been very busy over the summer months and it always amazes us just how few members we bump into when we are working. Whilst the work parties are weather dependant we are trying to give as much notice as possible and if we do have to close a water, which is very rare, details will go on the website and if we can a notice on any gates.
One date for your diary is the annual tidy up at Badgers Wood otherwise known as “TheMega Strim” This will be on Saturday 5 November and if you have a working strimmer please come along as the more we have the less time it will take. Even if you don’t have a machine and fancy a bit of exercise and some good company we would be pleased to see you as the raking up is just as important. We will have slightly less to do this year as we intend leaving the grass on the Eastern side of the pond -What a lazy gardener would call re-wilding but on a slightly larger scale..
There is always plenty to do and it is a chance to meet up with other members and enjoy a free coffee and a bite to eat. We will be providing either burgers or sausages or possibly both – the chef hasn’t decided yet. We aim to get going at around 9 but any time you can spare will be very much appreciated. If you do decide to come could we ask you to bring your own mug.
Another Date for your diary
Following a change of stewardship at Burgess Hill Football Club there was a bit of a problem with regard to the AGM. However this has now been resolved and for the avoidance of any doubt the AGM is on Friday 21 October and will start at 8 o’clock. We had a very low turnout last year which meant we were unable to formally vote in any proposed changes. This does make it somewhat difficult to run the club efficiently, so please come along and have the opportunity to meet the committee and have your say. We need at least 30 people to form a Quorum (to enable votes to take place) and you would think that this wouldn’t be too difficult in view of our membership numbers.
So if you have a couple of hours free on Friday 21 October please come along to Burgess Hill Football Club. As usual there will be a free buffet and the bar will be open!
Are you good with Figures?
If so we are on the lookout for someone to replace our Treasurer Greg Brown. He will be standing down permanently, in due course, but in the meantime is happy to work alongside his successor and show them what the role entails.
100 Club
A bit of a catch up on the 100 Club so here goes…………….
